More than a transport upgrade, the Queenstown Arterial Road is a project where design becomes storytelling. The new connection between Melbourne Street and Henry Street reduces congestion through Queenstown's town centre, but its impact runsdeeper.
The precast retaining walls feature integrated Maori artworks created with Kai Tahu artists, including Marlon Williams, representing whakapapa, connection to whenua, and local stories specific to NgaiTahu.
Working within the precast facility, ECOTONE refined colour palettes and concrete finishes to align every detail with the project's cultural narrative, before the finished surfaces were protected with a graffiti resistant coating for this demanding publicenvironment.
The result is a piece of infrastructure that balances technical performance with cultural expression, a corridor that moves people while telling a story of place, identity andcollaboration.
