Carlaw Park Student Village called for a bold, distinctive exterior identity across its precast concrete elements, achieved through close collaboration between the architect, builder, precast manufacturer andECOTONE.
ECOTONE NZ applied multiple finishes to the grey precast concrete panels, including a Corten metallic look alongside bold yellow and modern black and white tones, creating strong visual variety across the building'sfacade.
By working with prefabricated, load bearing architectural precast panels, the project delivered significant cost and time savings while greatly reducing the need for expensive hoarding and perimeter scaffolding onsite, a genuinely sustainable approach to large scaleconstruction.

“ We have worked with ECOTONE on a number of projects to date and were very pleased to get them involved in CPSV3 at an early stage. For this project, we had conceived the idea of using a Corten façade system but were very hesitant to use actual Corten given its inherent peripheral staining issues and how to control a high aesthetic level for a long period of time. We looked at a number of systems, all of which came with their own problems until we spoke with ECOTONE. Their system was applied easily, had very good durability properties and very low maintenance requirements. The problem of getting the look we wanted was resolved very painlessly by ECOTONE (and Megan in particular) preparing very large-scale samples, and then listening to what we liked and did not like to formulate exactly what we were looking for.”
