BRIEF
Colour by design and further protected by our Functional Coatings

Material & Application

Our NSW colour technicians achieved the coloured glazed brick look using ECOTONE Sharp in a controlled environment via our prefabricated façade service and in collaboration with PGH and Waeger Constructions. The ECOTONE coating was followed by our functional and protective coating Ultra Graffiti Shield. The brick ends were then delivered to Weager Constructions to be set into the precast prior to installation onsite.

Outcome

Designed by artist Browyn Bancroft, the feature brickwork (cast into the precast elements) has various and vivid coloured ends. As the train moves into and out of the station the coloured brick ends cleverly reveal a transitioning and vibrant artwork. By choosing ECOTONE to colour the brick ends prior to installation, our client was able to reduce the amount of waste, project time, energy and hire of expensive scaffold onsite. Furthermore, the functional coating will provide graffiti protection and easy clean. A winning solution.

Testimonial

“The large-scale piece represents a visual connection between the past and the present. The DNA and serpentine-like imagery is symbolic of one of the many creation stories that have been handed down over time for over 60,000 years….A brick inlay system was used to create the look and feel of a traditional brick facade with all the efficiencies and durability of precast concrete. Each brick was then individually placed across 216 precast panels. Once finished, the panels were transported from Newcastle to Central Station for installation and were lifted into place using a single 135-tonne crane, using a ‘dual lift and rotate’ methodology.”
