BRIEF
Colour by Design to concrete paving

Material & Application

At Newcastle Grammar School’s Park Campus, ECOTONE supported the delivery of a vibrant First Nations pavement mural as part of a broader transformation of the school. Working alongside First Nations artist Saretta Fielding, ECOTONE accredited applicator John Hersee used ECOTONE Minsil to apply the intricate, multi-coloured design directly onto the school pavement. This system was chosen for its excellent colour stability and suitability for exterior concrete applications.

To ensure the mural could endure the demands of a busy school environment, the surface was sealed with a durable clear protective coating, preserving the artwork’s vibrancy and integrity under heavy foot traffic and daily use.

Outcome

The finished works on the N81 (Technical Annex Building) at Griffith University’s Nathan Campus delivered both aesthetic consistency and long-term durability — key to supporting the facility’s role in environmental research and teaching. The expansion of scope mid-project is a testament to the quality and reliability of our product and team. Working closely with the builder and site team, we maintained safety, flexibility, and program alignment, even as additional areas were brought into scope.

The end result is a cohesive architectural finish that met the expectations of all stakeholders, contributing to the successful delivery of this technically driven, future-focused facility.

Testimonial

The results of this project truly reflect the passion and craftsmanship that drive our team. The outcome would not have been possible without the skill and dedication of John Hersee Painters and Decorators. Their long history in decorative finishes—and now artisan expertise in sign writing—brought the level of detail and precision this mural required. John’s understanding of the ECOTONE Minsil system and his commitment to achieving the artist’s vision ensured the design was not only beautifully executed but built to last. It’s a fantastic example of how collaboration, creativity, and technical excellence can come together to create something truly meaningful.
